A recap of the biggest moments and takeaways from Salsify's Digital Shelf Summit 2026.

Salsify's Digital Shelf Summit (DSS) 2026 brought together top brand and ecommerce leaders and the partners they collaborate with for face-to-face discussions and meaningful sessions. (We also can't forget about the puppies!)

One theme defined DSS 2026: Agentic commerce is now

Salsify Co-Founder Rob Gonzalez set the tone early, noting that the growth in agentic shopping is phenomenal and that brands need to be ready for the AI bots that are doing the shopping, not just the humans. "You have to master all three shelves — digital, physical, and agentic — or you cede to the competition," he said.

Lauren Livak Gilbert, Executive Director of the Digital Shelf Institute, framed it as a fundamental shift in how organizations get work done. "The pace of change is faster than ever, and if everyone has access to the same technology as you, what differentiates you? It's the decisions you make and how you execute them."

The consensus among attendees was the same: agentic commerce is no longer a future-state planning exercise. It's a now problem, and brands that aren't structuring their data and content for AI discovery are already falling behind.

 

Context is everything (and content needs to scale)

As AI agents take on more of the discovery and buying process, the product record has expanded significantly. Brands now need to feed conversational ecommerce engines with richer, more structured content than ever before. According to Lauren Livak Gilbert, the amount of content needed by brands is expected to increase 5x to meet the demands of agentic systems.

The implications are significant. Scot Wingo reinforced how quickly the shopper journey is evolving. Brands need to get out of "keyword jail" as AI reshapes discovery. And as one attendee put it bluntly: your PDP does not have a page two.
